Visualization of documents and drawings is a key element of document management solutions, allowing users to see files in their totality, regardless of their file type. Quick, secure displays of files with outstanding resolution, regardless of zoom level, gets users the views they need.

HTML5 viewer

ImageSite provides a single viewer using the most current technology, HTML5. The system creates rendered vector graphic images that are viewable with modern HTML5 web browsers (the ones currently in use, including Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Android, Opera, and others). The rendered images are streamed to the browser, whereas other document management solutions download the file to the user’s machine and utilize client software on their device to view the downloaded file. (Don’t be fooled when others say they don’t download the file, the file is put in a Temp directory, this is the only way they can view files.)

Using the device’s browser means there’s no client software to download and maintain on the user machine. In addition, there’s no mobile app to download and maintain for tablets and smartphones. This allows for extra fast system deployment as hundreds, if not thousands, of computers don’t need to be updated and as users are already familiar with how to use the viewer tool, in this case, their browser.

Benefits of streaming images

Streaming of images has additional benefits. Streaming tends to be faster than downloading files and allows file views before the entire file is streamed, unlike downloading and then viewing. More importantly, security is maintained as the native file never leaves the safety of the server, whereas downloaded files, even if to Temp directories, are vulnerable to intrusion. (Per NIST guidelines on access control, this is an unacceptable vulnerability.)

ImageSite’s viewing canvas is clean and intuitive. Unlike other viewers with a ton of icons and indecipherable pictures, almost all viewing commands are a right mouse button click away, providing more room for the actual view. The ImageSite Viewer can display over 90 different file types, allowing users to employ standard navigation methods (e.g., mouse scroll button for zooming and mouse left button click and hold for panning) regardless of the file, including CAD files and PDFs.

Employing the Viewer, users can display most CAD files, along with their associated reference files. XRefs and layers can be easily turned on and off with screen toggles for precise viewing. An additional toggle enables users to change CAD background colors from white to black, or vis-a-versa and even display files in a monotone presentation. This Viewer feature allows companies to use ImageSite to provide access to CAD files for those who need them, without paying for expensive CAD licenses.

The ImageSite Viewer is also versatile, allowing visualization of several 3D model file types, including NX, SolidWorks, and Revit files. Models can be rotated similar to the native application, again without needing any CAD licenses.
